Chicken Scream Race is a racing sidescroller that offers a unique twist on traditional play. Across three game modes (Endless, Race and Adventure), the player directs a clucking, jumping chicken past obstacles to collect coins and reach finish lines.
The game offers both 1-player and 2-player options. That said, the twist isn't that the player can play competitively. Instead, the player can use loud talking, shouts and screams to control their chicken avatar's jumps.
In Endless mode, the player tries to keep their chicken avatar alive as long as possible to explore the in-game world and earn a high score. If it dies, they start over from the beginning in a random arrangement of platforms and threats and attempt to beat their last score. In Race mode, they select any of 15 different environments and weather conditions and play against NPCs to achieve one of three winner positions per race. If their chicken dies, the game automatically revives it within five seconds. In Adventure mode, the player must complete challenges to unlock 15 increasingly difficult levels.
Chicken Scream Race features common platformer traps, such as flowing water, metal spikes and spinning spiked wheels. The player helps their avatar survive by directing it to perform tiny or high jumps with a jump charge bar.
